Description of Challenge:

The use of Internet and information technology has drawn the interest from different business segments as it may be applied in a great number of areas, from vertical to transversal, from strategic to operational so that the opportunities are distributed among production, storage, transmission and access to the use of information. New technologies have threatened the business models of virtually all companies in different sectors; the opportunities also present several challenges yet to be overcome involving cyber security and crimes, effective use of disperse information, quality and reliability of information, the consumers’ increasing expectation, commoditization of applications and others.

Opportunities for Startups:

  • » Use of Internet and Information Technology for social innovation;
  • » Innovation in publication, production and distribution of digital contents: books, music, news, scientific articles, etc;
  • » New interactivity models between people, institutions and communities;
  • » Robots for users’ better experience (e.g. airspace industry)
  • » New Technologies and applications in Big Data, Analytics, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things and several digital applications attending more than one sector (or sectors / topics not addressed in the other program challenges such as Insurance, Transport, Services and Entertainment);
  • » New applications in shared economy and crowdsourcing;
  • » Applications in business processes such as recruiting, ERP, sales, marketing, logistics and operations (not addressed in the other program challenges / topics);
  • » Applications and Technologies in artificial intelligence for decision-making (e.g. segmentation, troubleshooting, process improvement, etc.);
  • » Applications of communication between mobile devices that do not use traditional data network (3G/4G or Wi-Fi) either by means of audio, display / camera, Bluetooth, NFC, etc.;
  • » Solutions for data security and new authentication models (e.g. secured environment for exchange of information and files, NFC, biometrics);
  • » Technologies for identification by means of biometrics using features existing in mobile devices with no additional hardware such as camera, microphone, flash, etc.;
